RuneWords Third-Party Notices

Scope of this notice

The RuneWords project license applies only to original project code and documentation. It does not replace the licenses or ownership rights attached to third-party fonts, word data, audio, images, SDKs, or services.

Word data

The core and bonus dictionaries are transformed from dwyl/english-words under its Unlicense/public-domain dedication. RuneWords uppercases the entries, removes short and blocked entries, and separates gameplay and bonus words by length.

The blocked-word filter is adapted from Shutterstock's English LDNOOBW list, licensed under CC BY 4.0. RuneWords uppercases, sorts, and serializes the entries. No endorsement is implied.

Common-word ranking

The common-word ranking is adapted from wordfreq 3.1.1 by Robyn Speer. Its frequency data and the adapted RuneWords ranking are covered by CC BY-SA 4.0. RuneWords filters the English ranking by frequency, spelling, length, its gameplay corpus, and its blocked-word list.

The upstream wordfreq notice credits Google Books Ngrams and Syntactic Ngrams, the Leeds Internet Corpus, Wikipedia, ParaCrawl, OPUS OpenSubtitles/OpenSubtitles, the SUBTLEX lists created by Marc Brysbaert and collaborators, and historical aggregate Twitter frequency statistics. No endorsement by those sources is implied.

RuneWords-created content

The optimized gameplay trie, clue copy, sound effects, and realm/UI artwork were created specifically for RuneWords. The project owner confirmed on July 10, 2026 that AI-assisted copy and artwork were produced under the owner's direction and authorized accounts using owner-controlled prompts and inputs, with final selection and editing performed for RuneWords. Six retained realm inputs identify Meta AI; other project content used the owner's Codex/OpenAI workflow. No stock imagery, copied dictionary text, or external audio samples were incorporated. Sound effects are deterministic project synthesis.

Website font delivery

This website requests Cinzel, Fraunces, and Manrope from Google Fonts rather than distributing those font files from this website. The Cinzel notice below covers the Cinzel font bundled in the RuneWords app and does not replace the terms governing Google Fonts delivery.

SIL Open Font License 1.1

Preamble

The goals of the Open Font License (OFL) are to stimulate worldwide development of collaborative font projects, to support the font creation efforts of academic and linguistic communities, and to provide a free and open framework in which fonts may be shared and improved in partnership with others.

The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. "Font Software" refers to the set of files released by the Copyright Holder(s) under this license and clearly marked as such. This may include source files, build scripts and documentation.

"Reserved Font Name" refers to any names specified as such after the copyright statement(s).

"Original Version" refers to the collection of Font Software components as distributed by the Copyright Holder(s).

"Modified Version" refers to any derivative made by adding to, deleting, or substituting -- in part or in whole -- any of the components of the Original Version, by changing formats or by porting the Font Software to a new environment.

"Author" refers to any designer, engineer, programmer, technical writer or other person who contributed to the Font Software.

Permission and conditions

Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of the Font Software, to use, study, copy, merge, embed, modify, redistribute, and sell modified and unmodified copies of the Font Software, subject to the following conditions:

1. Neither the Font Software nor any of its individual components, in Original or Modified Versions, may be sold by itself.
2. Original or Modified Versions of the Font Software may be bundled, redistributed and/or sold with any software, provided that each copy contains the above copyright notice and this license. These can be included either as stand-alone text files, human-readable headers or in the appropriate machine-readable metadata fields within text or binary files as long as those fields can be easily viewed by the user.
3. No Modified Version of the Font Software may use the Reserved Font Name(s) unless explicit written permission is granted by the corresponding Copyright Holder. This restriction only applies to the primary font name as presented to the users.

Termination
